Using a structured proforma, children at Longvernal Primary School learn creatively through a mix of techniques and processes. Children learn and experiment through the art curriculum which enables classes to try: drawing, painting, collage and textiles, printing and sculpture. The curriculum links with the Longvernal values to promote teamwork, originality, excellence, respect, and self-belief.
The ‘big ideas’ are based on the learning and understanding of ‘generating ideas, using sketchbooks, making skills, knowledge of artists and evaluating,’ which are encouraged and implemented each lesson. Each unit the children learn about various artists and their influence on their own creativity and on society.
Children learn new terminology in each unit and are confident to confidently and enthusiastically talk about their taught artists and how they have produced their own original artworks.
